history
The Head O' The Road bar and restaurant which has operated as a spirit grocer and public house since the very early 1800s has been in the capable hands of the Lawson family for over 77 years.

The premises which are a listed building with the Ulster Architectural Hertiage Society date from mid 1700's and its interior retains this authentic look.
The original building is made up of 3 bays / rooms. The restaurant is located in the oldest part of the building which dates back to the mid 1700s and is shown on Rocque's Co. Armagh map of 1760.You can still see the original stone walls and lintels above the windows and the old family safe! The restuarant bar is located in the old shop which served the local community for well over 100 years. The bar is in its original location with the original fireplace still burning logs and providing a cosy atmosphere in colder weather.

In 1932 John G Lawson bought the business which was a traditional spirit grocer's shop. His son Tommy took over the reins in 1975 and concentrated solely as operating as a bar. In 1995, the Lawsons' decided to expand into the restaurant trade. The former shop was converted into a lounge bar and restaurant and still retains the charm and atmosphere of bye gone days. John isTommy's son and is the 3rd generation to run the bar and restaurant.

Lawson's Creek, overlooking apple orchards, opened in 2007 and is a purpose built patio area incorporating a covered pergola! It is big enough to provide a relaxing area for smokers and non smokers to enjoy the beautiful vistas including the near by orchards . The restaurant is well known for its excellent pub grub at affordable prices, with the menu being sourced from local suppliers, ensuring customers only get the best of fare.

The restaurant is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the introduction of a Sunday Carvery being a real success. Tommy's son John now takes care of the day to day running of the bar and restaurant but Tommy is never to far away when required to lend a hand and enjoys nothing more than helping people find out more about places of interest in the locality.

The premises are suitable for hosting a wide range of functions, call John and find out more!

Whenever you come for a bite to eat, a quiet drink or for a special event a warm welcome awaits you!

'...the building has been listed for some
time and therefore the facade of the place cannot be altered.'

'' many great local characters frequent the premises- it is a real focus for community life in this quiet rural area."
